THAILAND: Jungle Trails & Elephant Sanctuaries

Braap with us in Thailand! This December, we’re off to explore Northern Thailand on dirt bikes in collaboration with Grace McDonald, co-founder of HiVolt Motorsports. We’re beyond stoked to partner up with a female-owned moto business in Thailand and invite you on a two-wheeled adventure through lush green jungle and dreamy mountains. As always with Big Little Rides adventures, we won’t just ride – we’ll get to know Northern Thailand up close and personal and combine the braaping with relaxed rest days visiting elephant sanctuaries, kicking by the pool, and enjoying Thai craft markets.

The tour will be fully supported by Grace’s outfit who will have our backs with everything from bike maintenance to local Thai guides. You’ll get to experience the natural, cultural, and culinary delights of this amazing part of the world in the company of people who have lived in and loved this place their whole lives. The best part is, you’ll get to ride Thailand with a bunch of badass women riders just like your awesome self!

Day 1 | Welcome to Chiang Mai!

Meet and greet time! Today, we’ll check into our Chiang Mai hotel and gather by the pool for a pre-ride briefing. You’ll meet all the fabulous women with whom you’ll be sharing the upcoming adventure and have time for a cool drink and a dip in the pool. We’ll get straight into the local cuisine with some of our favourite Northern Thai dishes to set the tone for the rest of the trip.
Hotel: The Balcony Chiang Mai Village

Dinner: Included

Day 2 | Ride for coffee

We start the day with local coffee, sweet fried bread, and savory Thai rice porridge. At 8.30 am, we gear up and head out of town on the dirt bikes. Within five kilometers, we’ll be on the dirt tracks easing into the adventure. The first stop is for locally-grown coffee on top of the mountain at Khun Chun Kian, and then we’ll head on through to the terraced vistas of Mon Jam for the night.

Depending on the time of arrival in Mon Jam, we also have the option of an extra enduro loop for advanced riders.

Hotel: ม่อนอิงดาว

Dinner: Included

Day 3 | Buddha’s Footprints

Now that we’ve warmed up, we have a mix of gloriously fun double and single tracks to enjoy today. We’ll pass through Wat Pra Bhat Si Roi – where the monks are said to safeguard one of Buddha’s footprints – and finish the day with one of our favourite sections of single track.

Tonight, you’re our guests: we invite you to dinner, a bonfire, and a party at our enduro base here in the mountains. Enjoy wonderful northern Thai home cooking and make yourself at home! When you’ve eaten and partied enough, we’ll drop you at your beautiful resort amongst the coffee gardens.

Hotel: 32 Coffee Hill

Dinner: Included

Day 4 | Hot Springs and Elephants

Today is all about relaxing in this tranquil part of the world. There are a variety of activities on offer – trekking if you’re feeling energetic, or perhaps you prefer to marinate in the hot springs, sample local coffee, see a waterfall or visit the elephants a little down the road in Mae Taeng? If you chose to simply soak in a bathtub in your mountainside villa, we’d understand that too.
Hotel: 32 Coffee Hill

Dinner: Included

Day 5 |  Mountainside Gardens

Well rested and back on the bikes, we’ll ride past the mountain monastery up to Mount Mon Ngoc and explore farmers’ single track through remote mountainside gardens. After lunch, it’s all easy – fun, fast double track with a water crossing for laughs – before we put our feet up in the village of Muang Khong. In this town, the nightlife consists mainly of snoring water buffalos, but for the brave and foolhardy, the locals brew a mean moonshine.
Dinner: Included.

Day 6 | Jungle Trails

We’ll be on the bikes before the mist is out of the valley, and this is one of our favorite sections – thrilling views, a mountainside animal shrine, and a fast, sweeping single track. After a few days in the jungle, today we’ll roll into the thriving hippy town of Pai. Want a massage? You got it. Real pizza? We have it. Check into the lovely Pai Village Hotel, right next to the walking street markets, and let your hair down.
Hotel: Pai Village Boutique Resort

Dinner: Not included.

Day 7 | SPA & Local markets

Today is a rest day! Pai is full of attractions from music to markets to handcrafts, waterfalls, lookouts, hot springs, and spa experiences.
Dinner: Not included.

Day 8 | Can you say khao soi?

The tracks today are a bundle of fun. We start off with some exciting single track then ease into more double track in the afternoon. Tonight, we eat our favourite version of khao soi, which was recently voted the most delicious soup in the world.
Dinner: Included.

Day 9 | Trails, trails, trails

We saved some gorgeous tracks for last. We’ll picnic in the forest at lunchtime and have you cruising back into Chiang Mai before dark.
