Hola, Mexico!

Gear up for the Day of the Dead…On Wheels
Ride with the Spirits: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Mexican Adventure

Ever wondered what happens when you mix dirt bikes, ancient traditions, and a dash of tequila? We’re about to find out! This October, we’re heading south of the border for an adventure that combines the mystical Dia de Los Muertos celebration with epic trail riding through Mexico’s stunning Sierra Gorda.

This isn’t just another women’s motorcycle tour. This is your chance to experience Mexico’s most enchanting celebration while conquering rugged canyons and mountain trails on your trusty Honda XR150.

The Magic of Dia de Los Muertos

Forget Halloween – we’re diving deep into Mexico’s most mesmerizing tradition:

  • Join candlelit processions through Querétaro’s historic streets
  • Transform into a beautiful Catrina with traditional face painting
  • Experience the surreal beauty of decorated cemeteries under starlit skies

The Adventure Unleashed

After the festivities, we’ll saddle up for five days of pure two-wheeled bliss:

  • Base ourselves in San Joaquin
  • Explore hidden canyons and mountain trails (70% off-road)
  • Discover ancient pyramids and waterfalls
  • Cool off in secret swimming holes
  • Feast on authentic Mexican cuisine (read: beyond tacos and tequila)
  • Get wonderfully lost in the Sierra Gorda (on purpose, we promise! Mostly.)

In collaboration with FD Motor Pro led by François Deroeux – a racer, off-road instructor, and a dirt bike guide who’s spent the last two decades living and exploring Mexico – we’re off on a spicy adventure to explore what Mexico has to offer.

It’s an expedition on light dirt bikes, where we’ll stay at a basecamp hotel in San Joaquin and do loops around the area checking out riverbeds, canyons, mountain trails, and small villages, connecting with the locals, and feasting on ridiculously delicious Mexican cuisine. The itinerary may change as we go along – and that’s what makes this a real adventure.

Why This Women’s Motorcycle Tour in Mexico is EXTRA Special:

  • Dia de Los Muertos: this celebration in Mexico is like a colorful family reunion…except the ones honored are, well, dead – but it’s still a party to remember. Forget Halloween – Dia De Los Muertos is where it’s at.
  • Raw adventure: yeah, we sort of know where we’re going. But we’ll likely get lost along the way, and that’s part of the fun.
  • YOU get to shape the journey. Gnarly trails? Done. Skill training? You bet. More tacos and tequila? Say no more.
  • A company of like-minded women who want to let their hair down, experience the real Mexico, ride, and explore.

Here’s a taste of the adventure:

  • Bikes: Lightweight and nimble Honda XR150s, perfect for tackling those twisty trails.
  • Terrain: Hard-packed dirt, riverbeds, mountain passes, and maybe a few surprises along the way.
  • Culture: El Dia de Los Muertos, obviously. Also: explore ancient pyramids, wander through the charming colonial town of Queretaro and quirky Tequisquiapan and soak up the vibrant Mexican spirit. Most likely, with a margarita in hand!
  • Nature: Swim under waterfalls and marvel at the breathtaking scenery.

Day 1 | Bienvenidos a Querétaro!

Touchdown in Mexico, ladies! Get ready to swap those helmets for sombreros (just kidding… kinda 😉) because Day One of our Sierra Gorda adventure is all about soaking up the vibrant vibes of Querétaro. This isn’t just some dusty stopover town: Querétaro is a UNESCO World Heritage gem, bursting with history, culture, and enough delicious food to make your tastebuds sing.

  • Meet & Greet: We’ll gather in the heart of Querétaro’s stunning colonial center, a place where time seems to slow down and every corner is a postcard moment. Get ready for hugs, introductions, and that instant “we’re gonna be best friends” feeling that only happens on Big Little Rides tours. We’ll explore Querétaro’s charming cobblestone streets, peek into hidden courtyards, and maybe even haggle for souvenirs in the colorful markets. Don’t forget your camera – this city is begging to be Instagrammed!
  • Margarita Madness: Did someone say margaritas? Yep, it’s time to celebrate our arrival with a pitcher (or two) of these frosty delights. Cheers to new adventures and the amazing women we’ll share them with!

  • Witness colorful ofrendas (altars) honoring ancestors
  • Participate in ceremonies that bridge the world of the living and dead

And, yes, likely more margaritas.

Day 3 | Transfer to our base in San Joaquin

Time to move to basecamp and check out our steeds.

Here’s the Day Two rundown:

  •  Transfer: We’ll pack our bags (remember, pack light!), say “hasta luego” to Tequisquiapan, and hit the road for San Joaquin. Get ready for some seriously scenic views as we wind our way through the Sierra Gorda.
  • Basecamp Bliss: Our home away from home is a cozy spot in the heart of San Joaquin. Time to unpack, settle in, and maybe snag a hammock for some pre-ride relaxation.
  • Bike Bonding: Those trusty Honda XR150s are waiting! We’ll get acquainted with our steeds, handle the paperwork, and make sure everything’s ready for our off-road adventures.
  • San Joaquin Stroll: This Pueblo Magico is begging to be explored. We’ll wander the charming streets, maybe grab a coffee at a local cafe, and soak up the laid-back mountain vibes.

The real adventure begins tomorrow.

Day 4 | El Doctor loop 50 Km (30 Mi)

Today, we’re jumping on the bikes and diving headfirst into the wild heart of the Sierra Gorda.

Get ready for the El Doctor Loop, a 50km rollercoaster of pine-scented trails, hidden villages, and a dash of mining history. We’ll wind our way through lush pine forests, where the air is crisp, the trails are twisty, and the views are breathtaking. Keep your eyes peeled for those sneaky narrow paths – they’re a fun challenge!

At lunchtime, we’ll take a break in a tiny village that feels like it’s frozen in time. Think cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and maybe even a donkey or two strolling by. Next up, we’ll descend through the woods to a small town that’s still buzzing with mining activity.

Today’s ride is all about getting used to the bikes, embracing the unexpected, checking out the trails, and sharing the adventure with your awesome crew.

Day 5 | El Aguacate loop 80 Km (50 Mi)

Hold On Tight! It’s Twisty Time in the Sierra Gorda: get ready to GRIN! Today’s ride is a rollercoaster of epic proportions. We’re talking endless twisty dirt roads, jaw-dropping mountain vistas, and enough adrenaline to keep you buzzing all week.

But a word of caution, daredevils: Those cliffs are STEEP. Unless you’ve got a secret superhero cape tucked away in your gear, stick to the road. No cliff-diving today, ladies!

We’ll be winding our way up and down the Sierra Gorda, tackling switchbacks, and feasting our eyes on lush valleys, towering peaks, and maybe even a glimpse of some local wildlife. (Don’t worry, we’ll stop for photos… eventually!).

Day 6 | Canyon loop 90 Km (55 Mi)

Alright, adventurers, prepare for a day that’ll leave you breathless (and maybe a little dusty!). We’re diving deep into the heart of the Sierra Gorda on our Canyon Loop – a 90km odyssey that’ll build your skills, challenge your limits, and reward you with scenery that’ll make your jaw drop.

Today, we’re tackling a rugged riverbed, navigating narrow canyons, and conquering twisty, steep mine roads. Expect the unexpected, embrace the challenge, and get ready for an adrenaline rush like no other.

Oh, and one more thing: Don’t forget your sunscreen and hydration packs! This canyon adventure is gonna be a scorcher.

Day 7 | Rest Day: Pyramids and Waterfalls

Today, we’re ditching the helmets and embracing the tranquility of the Sierra Gorda.

Get ready to step back in time as we explore ancient pyramids, hidden amongst the lush greenery. We’ll wander through history, soak up the mystical vibes, and maybe even try to decipher some ancient hieroglyphs (or just take a killer selfie – no judgment here!).

Then, it’s time to cool off and reconnect with nature. We’ll hike to a secluded waterfall, where you can swim in the crystal-clear pools, bask in the sunshine, and let the sound of rushing water wash away any lingering dust from those epic trails.

Day 8 | La Higuera loop 120 Km (75 Mi)

Canyons, cacti, and a whole lotta WOW: today’s adventure is gonna be a wild one! We’re tackling the La Higuera Loop, a 120km rollercoaster of red canyons, cacti-studded trails, and hidden swimming holes that’ll make you wanna ditch the bikes and just soak in the scenery (don’t worry, we’ll get to that part!).

This is Sierra Gorda at its finest: think rugged landscapes, twisty paths, and those “holy moly, this is incredible!” moments around every corner. We’ll be navigating rocky terrain, dodging cacti (ouch!), and channeling our inner explorers. But the best part? After a day of dust and adrenaline, we’re trading our riding gear for swimsuits and heading to a secret oasis. Imagine natural pools nestled between towering red rock walls, where you can cool off, relax, and soak up the pure magic of Mother Nature.
